When viewing your profile, groups that you have hidden from public view are shown greyed out, giving you an idea of how your profile will appear to others. It’s by no means an extensive or all-inclusive list. This is a roundup of what I consider to be genuinely useful features. As an aside, I think it’s pretty clear that the developers at Linden Lab who developed Viewer 2.x don’t, but that’s not the subject of this entry.

If you want to use separate searchs on Inventory tabs, then go to Preferences → User Interface → Interface Windows → Allow separate search terms on each tab in inventory. What I like the most about Third Party Viewers such as Imprudence and Phoenix is that they are developed by people who actually use Second Life and so have features that, whilst they may not grab the headlines, are genuinely useful. Normally, search operates across all tabs in the Inventory window. To clear the search field, click the 'x' at the end of the search bar. For instance, if you want to find the word “red” but not the word “layered,” enter “red” in quotation marks. To search for an exact term, enclose it in quotation marks.

This will match (assuming you actually have such a landmark, of course), Firestorm Gateway Marina. For example, if you are looking for a landmark that you think contains Firestorm Marina, type in: Firestorm+Marina. If you want to search on multiple words, separate them with a '+', but without spaces. As described above, you can search by name, creator, description or UUID. As you type, inventory is filtered to show only items that match what has been typed. Inventory can be searched by typing into the white space at the top. Note that the total displayed (6616 in the image) includes items and folders. Referencing the image above, the Objects folder shown contains 28 items, and 6 subfolders. If you click on any folder, to the right of the name you will see the number of elements in the folder, that is, actual items, and subfolders. Items may be objects, textures, animations, and so on. Folders may contain single items or other folders, or a mix of both. If a folder icon has a small arrow to the left, then it contains items click that arrow to expand the folder.

You are free to use items in this folder as you wish, but you may not delete or otherwise manipulate the contents. It contains all manner of things which might be of use. The Library folder, on the other hand, is supplied by SL. For the most part, this main folder will contain items you accumulate in SL, things you purchase, or make. Some of these are system folders, meaning they have default and standard uses and cannot be removed or renamed or moved all other folders here can be manipulated at will. By default, the main inventory consists of two folders, which you cannot rename: Inventory and Library. Inventory is organized into a hierarchical tree. Firestorm for Mac Crashes on Exit Every Time Once you have adjusted your choices on this tab, click the Physics tab. The preview inside can be rotated and zoomed using the mouse, while the information displayed on the preview can be controlled by the preview controls panel. The preview window to the right is visible from all tabs, and is resizable by clicking and dragging the lower right-hand corner of the dialogue box. This more advanced usage is described on our mesh upload page. These are loaded either manually (see below) or automatically if they have been named in a manner that allows the viewer to detect them. A better solution, which gives complete control to the creator, is to use custom LOD models.

You can control the generation by tweaking the parameters (for details see below). The effectiveness of the auto-generation will vary depending on the model. Notice how the object's complexity is reduced at each level. Preview your model's automatically generated levels of detail on the Level of Detail tab by clicking High, Medium, Low, or Lowest. By default, you will have loaded a single High-LOD model and the viewer will generate the lower-LOD models for you.
